Trenchless Pipe Bursting In Birmingham Alabama

If you own a home or investment property that is over forty years old there is a high probability that you will soon be facing a major home repair. Many of them are clearly visible to the naked eye. For example it is very easy to tell when you need a new roof. The asphalt shingles show the obvious wear and tear from years of exposure to the elements. They crack, curl and even begin to blow off when it is windy outside. At that point it is necessary to have a new roof installed in order to avoid costly water damage to both the exterior and interior of your property.

Pipe Bursting

Other major home repairs are not so obvious. Most property owners are completely unaware of what is going with their sewer pipes since they are located underground. The bad news is that sewer lines that were manufactured over forty years ago are approaching the end of their expected lifecycle. This is due to the fact that they were made with materials that are now considered inferior such as clay and iron. Newer, high-density PVC plastic sewer pipes are expected to last much longer. That being said, the old iron pipes tend to rust and rot, while the clay versions crack and break.

When old sewer pipes break down they must be replaced in order to keep the waste disposal system working properly. Otherwise dirt and debris will fall into the cracks, broken spots, and rotted areas. Tree roots also tend to find their way into the pipes as they seek a water source. Of course this is not a good situation since it causes blockages and clogs. When sewer pipes are blocked and or clogged the raw sewage is unable to properly pass through those pipes on its way to either the city or town’s main sewer line or your own private septic tanks.

Instead the raw sewage will go back up the pipes and either leak into the ground through compromised areas of the pipeline, or enter the property through drains and toilet bowls. Although neither situation is ideal the later is perhaps even worse than the prior. If you happen to know anyone that has had raw sewage backup into his or her home than simply ask them how nasty of an experience it was. Chances are it was one of the worst occurrences that they have ever experienced. The good news is that there is a fairly new, high tech method available in order to fix the problem.

Unlike the traditional method of replacing sewer pipes, trenchless pipe bursting in Birmingham, Alabama does not require the need to dig a large trench along the entire length of the sewer line in order to expose it. In addition the pipe does not need to be physically removed in order to be replaced. Instead two small access holes are dug at either end of the sewer line. Next, a high tech machine is used to install a brand new continuous high-density polyethylene plastic pipe through the old pipe.

As the new pipe is being pulled through the broken one it bursts the old pipe in an outward motion. The original sewer line literally shatters into multiple small pieces. The pieces of the old pipe are left underground to naturally rot away. The two small access holes are then filled in as if they were never there at all. When the process is complete the old sewer pipe completely replaces the new one. Perhaps the best part is that it only takes a day or two to complete the job. That means your property will be back to normal in no time at all.
