Is your plumbing leaking?

Got a leak that needs to be taken care of?

Are you prepared for a plumbing emergency? A wise homeowner will have a highly qualified plumber come out to check for leaks in the piping, the joints, and the toilet. There is wonderful electronic equipment today that can be used to detect leaks even in slabs. This will establish a relationship with a plumber that will serve you well when you do experience a problem. The first step to take ahead of the occurrence of a leak is to find the main water shut-off valve for the house. Ask a plumber, a neighbor or a person experienced with your home to describe the location of this valve. It may not be necessary to shut off the water totally if you know where the leak is originating from.

So, if you are experiencing a leak and you cannot find a shut-off valve for the pipe that is leaking it is time to call for immediate plumbing service.

It is also a good idea to have a plumber come out and inspect your plumbing for potential leaks. A good plumber can detect a weak pipe, or find a pipe joint that looks like it may not be tight enough. While the plumber is inspecting the piping ask him or her to mark every shut-off valve. Then make a diagram of the house showing where the valves are and what they control. When a leak occurs you will have a good idea about where to go to shut-off the water to that area.Another indicator of a water leak is the water meter. With all of the water shut-off, look at your meter and see if the dial is moving which would indicate a leak. Some meters have leak detectors on the dial. If you do not see an immediate movement, then recheck the meter in 10 minutes. If you notice the slightest movement, then you probably have a leak. If a faucet is not dripping or the toilet does not appear to be running, you can be sure that the leak is hidden. Many leaks occur within the walls, and this can be one very nasty problem.

If you cannot find the leak, it is time to call Cole Plumbing at (334) 458-9413 and the sooner you do so the better it will be for your home.
